More than that, there is a possibility that part of them might be possibly malicious. Where does StreamFrenzy come from?

StreamFrenzy seems to have an official web page from where it can be downloaded (install.streamfrenzy.com/?pid=11111). However, to get to this site, the user should either know it or be redirected to it. Our researchers at Anti-spyware-101.com say it is more likely the second case since the PUP was noticed being promoted via suspicious pop-up advertisements. The user might encounter them while visiting various unreliable file-sharing web pages, although such ads could also be displayed by similar threats located on the user’s system. Thus, if this was the case for you and you have been noticing other questionable ads too, we would recommend checking the system with a legitimate antimalware tool just to make sure there are no potential threats on it. Plus, the next time you come across such content it would be advisable not to interact with it unless you are one hundred percent sure it will not cause any trouble.

How does StreamFrenzy work?

Once installed the PUP might replace a couple of your default browser settings. As explained earlier in the article StreamFrenzy could do so by placing mysearch.com instead of your default search engine or new tab page. Besides providing a search engine, the application should add a toolbar below the browser’s address bar; on it, the user should find links to popular web pages, e.g., amazon.com, youtube.com, and so on. Naturally, for users who visit such sites often, the tool might appear to be quite useful.

The problem is with time the user may start seeing targeted advertising content among mysearch.com displayed search results. Our researchers say there is such a possibility because StreamFrenzy provided tool uses a modified search engine, and because of it some additional content like third-party advertisements could be added to displayed results. It is important to mention that if the user notices such material, it might be best to stay away from it since some of it could be possibly malicious. For example, the ads may promote other PUPs or unreliable applications alike, lead to sites distributing malware or scam web pages, and so on.
