What is Zapp?
The suspicious application Zapp, also known as ZappAddon, has been created by Simply Tech Ltd. and is now published by One Floor App. The program is installed as a browser extension, and it can be linked to a variety of suspicious processes. The extension can access your data on all websites, modify the bookmarks and browsing history, collect information about your browsing habits, detect your physical location, and manage other installed applications and plugins. If you are not comfortable with this activity, there is no doubt that you should remove Zapp without further delay. How does Zapp work?
Simply Tech Ltd. is linked to the services of Widdit, a platform for software monetization. In the Privacy policy (widdit.com/privacy.aspx) it is revealed that the company developers various software components which in some cases may be bundled with third party software. Zapp can enter the PC bundled with other applications as well. In fact, this is the more common way of distribution because the application does not have an official download page. Needless to say, you should not ignore the additionally installed programs because even if they appear authentic it is possible that you will want to delete them from the operating system. Note that some of these could be hidden and may be more difficult to locate and remove than the others.
Once installed, Zapp sets scheduled tasks SystemSockets and Zapp Browser Updater. These tasks run files WConnectorSockets.exe and WRemoteUpdate.exe, both of which could be employed to update the extension without any of your notification. In general, the extension has been created to gather information about the user (i.e., you) and then allow third parties to present online advertisements, deals, coupons, offers, surveys, prize giveaways, etc. Since ZappAddon does not have an official website and travels using questionable distribution paths, we do not recommend clicking on any pop-up, in-line or banner offers which may be presented. This is particularly important if automatic malware detection and removal software has not been installed yet.
How to remove Zapp?
Once you are ready to delete Zapp from the browsers, you need to make sure you locate all of the undesirable and intrusive applications. Remove from Windows XP:
- Move to the Task Bar and click the Start button.
- Select Control Panel.
- Now double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- Find the undesirable program, click it and select Remove.
Remove from Windows Vista/Windows 7:
- Open the Start menu from the Task Bar.
- Select Control Panel to open a new menu.
- Now click Uninstall a program.
- Right-click the application you want to delete.
- Select Uninstall.
Remove from Windows 8:
- Tap the Windows key to access the Metro UI menu.
- Right-click on the screen and select All apps.
- In the Apps menu click Control Panel.
- Go to Uninstall a program and right-click the one you wish to delete.
- Click Uninstall.
