Quick Search

What is Quick Search?

Quick Search came to our attention when we noticed it being distributed with a browser hijacker called Search.searchetan.com. As we tested the extension, we saw it might change user’s browser preferences and provide him with a doubtful search engine that might display modified results. These qualities and some other reasons we will explain later in the article allowed us to categorize the tool as a potentially unwanted program. It means the software is not malicious, but it may have undesirable qualities and its usage could be possibly dangerous. For more information about Quick Search we encourage you to read the rest of our report, although if you wish to get rid of the application immediately, you could slide below the article and remove the extension with our provided manual deletion instructions.testtest

Where does Quick Search come from?

The extension appears to be yet another potentially unwanted program from an unreliable company known as Polarity Technologies Ltd. As you realize, Quick Search is not the first suspicious application created by this publisher that our researchers at anti-spyware-101.com have encountered. The company is also associated with more than a couple of browser hijackers and other potentially unwanted programs. Moreover, you should be aware that the software could be distributed through bundled installers of other doubtful tools, so the extension might be not the only questionable application on your computer. Thus, it would be a good idea to run a system scan and see whether there are any other threats or not. For this task we recommend using a legitimate antimalware tool; if you do not have it yet, we advise you to consider acquiring it.

How does Quick Search work?

At the moment Quick Search is only compatible with the Google Chrome browser. Its description on the Chrome Web Store claims the extension might configure your default search provider. Our researchers say it means the add-on could simply replace the default search engine with its own tool called Search.searchquicks.com. The research shows it might use a modified yahoo.com version to gather the main results and then inject them with suspicious advertisements from the application’s third-party associates.

The problem with such additional advertising is that we do not know where it might come from. In other words, no one can guarantee the ads will promote only reliable third-party web pages. There are a couple of statements in the extension’s End User License Agreement document with which the potentially unwanted program’s creators claim they take no responsibility for third-party content. Therefore, our researchers believe some of the displayed advertisements could be possibly malicious, for example, they could advertise browser hijackers, adware, other potentially unwanted programs, or even malware.

How to eliminate Quick Search?

All things considered, it does not look like Quick Search and its displayed tools could be trusted. If your top priority task is your computer’s safety, we advise you to look for more trustworthy software. The instructions available at the end of this paragraph will show you how to get rid of the add-on manually. As you can see the process is not particularly complicated, but if you want not only to erase this potentially unwanted program but look for other threats as well, we would recommend using a legitimate antimalware tool instead. Such a tool can perform a system scan, so all possible threats could be detected automatically without any effort. Not to mention that you could erase them all by simply clicking a deletion button.
