What is Kuaizip?
Kuaizip is file compression software that is promoted at kuaizip.com. At first glance, it looks like a beneficial and reliable file archiver, so many users decide to install it on their computers. It is not surprising at all that there are users who download and install this piece of software willingly because it is said that its compression ratio is 30% higher if compared to similar applications, including WinRAR and WinZip. In addition, it is said on its official website that Kuaizip can be used as a virtual drive to mount CD/DVD/HDD images as well. Even though this software seems to be good, we still cannot say that it is a trustworthy application that should be kept installed on the system. In fact, specialists working at anti-spyware-101.com have even put it into the category of potentially unwanted programs. There are several reasons why it has been classified as a PUP, and they will be all presented in this article. Also, you will be told how you delete Kuaizip from the system.
What does Kuaizip do?
Kuaizip has been released in two versions: English and Chinese; however, specialists say that the English version of this program is no longer active and cannot be downloaded from the official website. Of course, you might have downloaded it some time ago and still have it installed on your computer. To be honest, it does not really matter which version is installed on your computer because both of them are not fully reliable. Researchers have carried out research and then decided to categorize Kuaizip as a potentially unwanted program because they have noticed that it immediately sets itself as the default file archiver once it enters the computer. Of course, it does that without permission. It means that Kuaizip will launch automatically if you try to open some kind of archive. What is more, it has been found that the Chinese version of this application enters computers secretly, i.e. users do not see any message that it is going to be installed, and they cannot accept or decline the installation. In fact, the English version used to be spread in software bundles as well, so many users might not know that they have it too. To be frank, it does not matter which version you have because they both need to be removed as Kuaizip is a potentially unwanted program. There is no doubt that you will find a more trustworthy application to install instead of it because there is a bunch of other file compression applications available on the web for download.
Where does Kuaizip come from?
Specialists working at anti-spyware-101.com call Kuaizip a potentially unwanted program because it often enters computers without the direct permission. It seems that it is spread through bundled malicious installers mainly. In other words, it comes in software packages together with other applications, which are not all trustworthy as well. As we have already mentioned, users are not even informed that the Chinese version of this program is going to be installed, so they cannot prevent this from happening either. Believe us; decent programs never act like that, so we do not think that it is a very good idea to keep this potentially unwanted program installed on the system.
Not all the users immediately understand that Kuaizip is installed on their systems; however, if you can find its main folder in %PROGRAMFILES(x86)% or %PROGRAMFILES%, there is no doubt that this PUP is installed on the system. More experienced users can also open the registry editor to find several new registry keys created by Kuaizip, e.g. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\KuaizipUpdateChecker\ and HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\KuaiZipSFX\.
How to remove Kuaizip
If you have the English version of Kuaizip installed on your computer, you can erase it through Control Panel; however, you will still need to take care of junk files it leaves. The easiest way to do that is to scan the system with an automatic malware remover. Unfortunately, users who have the Chinese version of this application will have to delete it manually because it does not create its entry in Control Panel. In case you find this method too difficult, scan your computer with SpyHunter. We can assure you that it will erase all the threats it manages to find on your PC in the blink of an eye.
