What is a Trojan?
DriveCleaner is a Trojan.
A Trojan is a malicious and destructive code that is embedded in what appears to be legitimate or harmless software, but then it hijacks your computer and quickly spreads to do it’s damage, such as ruining the files on your hard disk. A common and most treacherous type of Trojan is a program that claims to remove viruses and spyware from your computer but instead installs the spyware onto your computer. A Trojan is similar to a Backdoor and may be widely redistributed as part of a computer virus.

During my monthly maintenance routine on my XP, I ran McAfee Anti-Virus. No infected files. Then I ran SpyBot. Then my PC went wacky with all types of pop-ups, etc. So, I ran McAfee again and it found a “potentialy unwanted” program i.e. Drive Cleaner. I could only have received this program on the internet while updating my SpyBot program. I was able to delete the program using McAfee “quarantine” and then “delete”. Then, I removed SpyBot from my system.

I do not have my Explorer account appearing when I turn on my computer and I choose MSN Explorer on my XP options. My computer initiate as “normal” but I know something is going on behind the scene.
I have 2 years on researching several medical conditions I have, and I have been faithful to store the best in my Favorites folder. Now I cannot get to them.
This prevents me from getting to thousands of medical favorites which I need prior to a surgery.
I did not go to any new sights, add any new software, etc. The only thing I did was call MCI to discontinue a long-distance monthly calling plan, instead of paying for each call. I’ve had to start to get ready for the surgery and am only keeping services I need.
The was a Pop-up that appeared with something about a drive cleaner. I did not open or use this. Within 1 hour, I could not get to all my email on MSN Explorer, which is my primary internet address, and cannot get to the history of Favorites containing my medical references.
Please help me correct this
This was someone invading my privacy, taking data, and damaging my computer.

Mas, not all the files that are in the registry starts the program. And not all the registry entries are dangerous. Check in the Windows and Program Files directories to see if the drivecleaner program is still there. Are you still getting pop ups from DriveCleaner? Plus DriveCleaner updates and renames their files so you might have new files listed rather than the ones that are listed on this page.
