A rogue anti-spyware software will install a trojan on your machine to download the software. You’ll know you’re being tricked if you go to a website and an ad pops up that looks like a Windows notification message. Once you click on the ad’s OK button, this will direct you to the software’s website. Often, a rogue anti-spware program will display false positives (nonexistent spyware) when you use their spyware scanner. I, too, was sucked in by the SystemDoctor. I have just finished going through the format/reinstall remedy, and at present, my system is clean (according to SpyHunter’s scanner). I appreciate the offer of the free scanner; at least it didn’t tell me that I had 300 security threats (a la SystemDoctor). But I couldn’t help wondering, what would I do if it had? It did identify 12 cookies, not an unusual number for my browsing habits.
P.S. Have any of you heard of DriveCleaner? They try the same kind of marketing as SystemDoctor…

    Elijah,

That’s true if you don’t know what exactly to do better do nothing because you can damage your computer or you won’t clean your system fully. The easiest way is to use reliable antivirus or anti-spyware program.
