What is Price Master?
Price Master is a recently released adware-type program that you ought to remove once you notice its presence, because it is set to display uncalled-for commercial advertisements. The ads come in the form of coupons that should give you discounts for specific products when you shop on Bestbuy.com. However, as we suspected, its coupons do not work, so this program has no added value. Oddly enough, it is programmed to collect information about you, but it does not seem like the collected information is used for tailoring ads. Please continue reading to learn more.
Where does Price Master come from?
The online advertising market is full of companies that are dedicated to developing this type of programs. Therefore, most adware developers release a lot of similar application. But, the programs usually feature different developer names, which are fictitious. In the case of Price Master the developer name is not indicated. However, our researchers have found that this adware comes from an established developer that is also responsible for creating programs, such as Awesome Shoppers and PriceHorse. These programs may appear different, but, basically, they work the same.
At present Price Master can be downloaded from Google’s Chrome Web Store. This program’s description on this store says that it will help you get price comparisons with products you are viewing online. However, the reality is completely different. The only sample we found works on Google Chrome. Nevertheless, it may also have versions compatible with Microsoft Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox. Price Master’s predecessors were known to be distributed using software bundles, so we suspect that this recently released program will also be bundled with other software and put up for download on questionable freeware distributing websites.
How does Price Master work?
For the time being, this adware program shows coupons only when you browse on Bestbuy.com. And, its coupon bar is labeled “Ads by PriceMaster.” The coupon bar features discount coupons on the right side of the browser window. However, if you click a coupon you will briefly get redirected to a subpage of a website called Fwdaff.com, and then you will immediately get redirected back to Bestbuy.com. It seems that the coupons are fake and will not give you any discounts.
