Where does ConvertApps come from?

Unfortunately, this adware application does not have an official homepage. We cannot provide you any official information on this program. Nevertheless, our security researchers at anti-spyware-101.com have found that ConvertApps is yet another addition to the Multiplug family.

The adware programs from this group are also called the semi-random name adware. It means that ConvertApps may generate its name at random upon the installation. However, the random factor applies only to the capitalization of the letters in the program’s name, so you will still be able to recognize it.

The same features are applicable to all the other applications from this group. We might as well say that ConvertApps is identical to OptiDiscount, OptiShopper, Best Save, and many other apps, all of which are based on the JustPlugIt engine.

Since ConvertApps does not have an official homepage, we can obviously tell that this program employs other means of distribution. It is well known in the online security community that ConvertApps and other Multiplug programs get distributed via the IntstallRex, Amonetize, and Vittalia installers. These installers are usually hosted in torrent and other file sharing websites, hiding behind a fake download button. Clicking such a flashy button eventually leads to the ConvertApps installation.

On top of that, you are installing a number of other unwanted applications because ConvertApps ALWAYS comes in a software bundle. Thus, while you are at it, you should locate and delete all the other potential threats before the situation goes out of hand.

What does ConvertApps do?

The program is supposed to provide you with relevant information on the online shopping. Namely, it should give you coupons and discount offers on the most popular online shopping malls. However, rather than helping you save money on your purchases, ConvertApps collects data on what websites you visit and then exposes you to customized commercial advertisements.

These advertisements are your biggest security concern. ConvertApps does not review what links get embedded into the ads, so if cyber criminals exploit the program, you may accidentally click an ad that leads to very dangerous web pages. Prevent this from happening by removing ConvertApps today.

How do I remove ConvertApps?
